Soulo SM5905 Bass Trombone Bucket Mute - 9.5 Inch Bell Size for Professional Musicians | Perfect for Jazz, Orchestral & Studio Performances

This is the only mute I could find that actually fits on my bell. I have a Shires 10.5" bell modeled after the Bach BL style bells, and my only option until this mute came along would be an in-bell solution like the JoRal bucket, of which I've heard mixed reviews. The Soulo mute is nice and light, and doesn't make my horn feel front heavy when I use it. The padding on the inside is a synthetic fiber, so I don't foresee that being the failure mode, if any. Solid construction on the braces, and no rattling when I play at any dynamic. There is slight back pressure, but only when I play loud with the mute in its closed position, which you generally won't use if you're playing loud. The sound is very dark and velvety while keeping a bit of resonance, pretty much the ideal bucket mute sound. I give it a Pat Williams out of 5.
